FAQ

  • What kind of training do you offer?

We offer private dog training services to Melbourne’s people and their dogs. With increasingly longer work hours and busy lifestyles, our clients typically can’t make it to traditional group classes and/or prefer a more personalised, one on one approach. That’s where we come in.

We also love to present dog training seminars and workshops to dog owners, foster carers and veterinary staff. Please check our Facebook page for any upcoming events. To enquire about booking an event, contact Tim at [email protected]

  • Which areas do you service?

We primarily offer private dog training services to the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, including Abbotsford, Brunswick, Brunswick East, Brunswick West, Burnley, Carlton, Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Coburg, Collingwood, Cremorne, East Melbourne, Fairfield, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Northcote, Preston, Princes Hill, Richmond, and Thornbury. If we don’t service your area, we’re happy to offer recommendations of other appropriately qualified, experienced, and educated professionals that do.

Online sessions are available for out-of-towners. These are conducted over Zoom.

  • What training methods do you use?

We’re big on finding fun and creative ways to make the learning process enjoyable for both you and your dog. We use a wide variety of training methods which vary from dog to dog, and situation to situation. We also take into account a dog’s age, breed, temperament, exercise needs and your skill set and training history. Just like no two people are the same, no two dogs are the same either meaning, some dogs will go crazy for food, while others prefer a toy or a game of fetch as a reward. At Good Dog we’ll work collaboratively with you to determine what works best for you, your individual dog, training goals and lifestyle.

  • What are your prices?

This depends on the type of service you’re looking for and what you’d like to get out of the training. To give you the best direction of where to begin we recommend booking in an initial 1.5 hour session to start which costs $250. Program options are available for those seeking a more complete and well-rounded approach.

  • What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept payments by card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Apple Pay) to secure all bookings.

  • Is my dog too young or too old to be trained?

Whether you have an 8-week old puppy or an 8-year-old rescue dog, no dog is too young or too old for training. You can (and should) start the training from the day you bring your puppy home. Conversely, you’ll be amazed what training can do to benefit your older dog’s body and mind.

  • What if my dog is not motivated by food?

You should check their pulse right away! No. But really, we’ll help you to work with whatever your dog finds most motivating and rewarding for them.

  • Who is required to be at the training sessions?

To ensure you get the most value out of our sessions together, it is important that all guardians/adults that take care of the dog are present and focused. This is to ensure consistency in the training.

  • Such-And-Such Dog Training guarantees their results, do you?

Due to the many variables involved in training and living with dogs, including owner commitment, consistency and follow-through, it would be unethical for us to offer a 100% guarantee. If you do find a dog trainer who guarantees results (and there are many), you should run very quickly in the opposite direction. This is large part due to owner commitment. We provide quality coaching and advice, but it’s our clients that create great results with their dogs.

  • What are your hours?

Training sessions are available Tuesday to Sunday, 0800 – 1930.
